Wow did I fall behind in everything. Instead of getting so much done over break like I had planned, I got absolutly nothing done I had wanted to. Had stuff I wanted to do here, wanted to do a total revamp on MKBO, wanted to get through games I got for Christmas, and wanted to lessen the "to watch" anime DVD pile. Short story behind me getting nothing done is I met a friend through work, and if I wasn't working, I was either out somewhere (rare occurence when home) or sleeping. I'm sorry for not getting anything done in that timeframe, and I'm going to get back on track with updates here, starting today. (You knew I wasn't just going to make a non-content apology update =P)
First off is that there's better images in a couple of the coverart galleries. Nothing new, just better quality pics for a few things. No scans of the SMSS DVD5 DVD covers yet as I didn't get them done before break, didn't do anything during break, and have no access to a scnner now since Brandon is no longer here. Second off, in Ushicon this weekend, ADV said in their panel that they are going to try to get the subs out over the summer, and will know better if it's possible or not after A-kon. Since this is just a one line news blurb with nothing solid about it, it's not worth making a news article on it.
Last but not least is something I wanted to do since the near end of summer. It was too late for me to start it when I thought of it, and break was very unproductive, this past week I finally started. There's now a new mini-section of the site called Dan's DVD reviews, where I'll be posting reviews of all Sailor Moon DVDs I own eventually. As well as posting them here, when I complete a review, I will send one to be posted as an alternate angle review to Anime on DVD.com. For those of you who haven't heard of it, AoD is a site where anime DVDs are reviewed, as well as a great news source, and some representaves from some studios go there to see what people think of their releases as well as take suggestions. I've recently been getting more into the site and taking part in the forums there, so I figure why not do alternate angle reviews for them since I'd be doing reviews on here. Works out good for both sites, and the reviews will get more exposure and a higher chance of a higher up seeing it and note what was said in it. Plus I'd also like to give more to the anime community and this is a good way to do that for now. You'll notice that the formats for the reviews on here and AoD are almost the same, that's because when writing them I did it in their style, and adapted it for over here. There's some differences (ie mine have scans), but for the most part the same. I'll have a link to AoD and my review there in the reviews here so you can see it there as well as go to the site for many other things if you wish. I hope to review all Sailor Moon DVDs, though I'll admit it'll probably be a while before I buy the ADV dubbed DVDs because they're honeslty not that high on my priority list even though I do plan to get them at some point.
I almost definetly won't be able to do updates on weekdays with how school, work, and schoolwork work out unless there's a news article to be made, but on weekends I'll try to do a little each week. I definetly plan on getting through my backlog of things to do here, it's my semester goal for SMU, so don't worry and enjoy the review!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at SMU. Yeah, we continue to all be busy. Sucks to be us. Oh well.
I finally ended up finishing that comparison that I've been promising for like 4 years now. Basically it suffered the same fate the movie comparisons had. I had the notes on the comparison done for quite a long time, I just never got around to doing the HTML for it. But it's done now so enjoy!
See my latest news article regarding Pioneer's final release of SuperS. Meh, I don't like it, but didn't expect more. And with this, Pioneer's involvement with Sailor Moon comes to an end, unless they pick up the specials or Stars at some point. It's been an interesting ride seeing what they've done, some ups and downs, it's too bad they decided to not go out (SM-wise) with a bang. When they got the movies, they did an excellent job with releasing them. Sailor Moon S had a nice release schedule, and good plans to satisfy both DVD and VHS users. The last DVD release even had a special deal at certain stores where it was packed in with the final Mixx manga to send the season off nicely. With SuperS, it just seems to me that it was forced out because they had it. The release schedule was pretty poor, as three months between a release is just too long. What could've been a quick year release with six sets of releases, was really a year and a half release over seven sets. And the VHS release was pretty bad as well, not giving the option of subs, and only select edited dub episodes. Extras were lacking for the S DVDs, and even moreso in SS, though the menus in SS have been really nice so far, and the movies had excellent menus, and the majority of all their SM releases had great coverart. I would've loved to see the two seasons released as well as the movies were, but at least they're out at all. What was deemed impossible a few short years ago is now practically complete today. S and SS have been dubbed, and better yet, availble subbed. Though not excatly the best release plans at points, it's great to see them out. Thank you Pioneer, for making the releases of the movies and the S and SS seasons possible.
Fairly big update today considering I need to catch up with what's happened in the past few weeks. Guess I'll start off in order and talk about the new CD that came out a few weeks ago.
In my last update, I showed you the cover of the new CD. It got here less than a week later, and two things stuck out to me when I checked out the back. One, there's a screensaver on the CD, and the second is that there's really no track listing. Just lists the first few songs and says something like "and more of your favorites" type deal. The back of the front cover insert thingy had all the songs listed, but with no track numbers, which baffled me for a bit. Checked out the screensaver, not too bad, nice images used in it, and I think if the CD is in your cpu when it goes off, background music plays, but I haven't taken the time to see if that's true or not (won't until I go home for winter break), so don't take my word on it yet. Listened to the CD and it was interesting, explained why there wasn't a track listing, because this CD also has DiC BG music used in the dub. Opening and looking through the insert, they have the dub tracks listed where they are on the CD between lyrics of songs. While it's nice to have the BG music on CD, it doesn't fit well on this CD, would do better on a seperate CD rather then having a BG song between some songs I think. Besides that, the CD sounds good, I enjoyed listening to it, the remixes of older songs are pretty good for the most part, the new song fits in well, and it was a good selection of music for this CD. I'd rather have had the DiC BG music cut off the CD in favor of another song or two, but it was an enjoyable CD nonetheless. I'd personally recommend buying it, it's cheap (retails for $13 I believe, and not too many places sell stuff at retail, usually lower), made by a company not "protected" by the RIAA (so you can feel better by not supporting those assholes, and it's funny, a non-RIAA CD is signficantally less than an RIAA CD, suprise suprise (I'm 99% sure Koch isn't under them, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)), and an enjoyable CD for people who liked the first two. If you haven't heard the first two, you should definetly give this a shot, especially with it's low price, and if you have heard the first two, you'd find this CD to be a good mix of the first two with some new twists. Over winter break, I'll be making a CD section where I'll give the full listings of tracks and scans and all, much like the DVD sections.
Speaking of DVDs, the fifth SuperS DVD was released a week after the CD. I haven't been able to scan it yet, will try to as soon as I can, haven't watched it yet, dunno when I will, but before Christmas I promise to have scans up for it.
While on the topic on the SuperS DVDs, I've been given information from Matt Merendo regarding the final SuperS DVD. It seems that Matt had e-mailed Pioneer over the summer asking Pioneer questions on the SuperS release schedule and a couple other small things. According to what he forwarded to me (which was Pioneer's response to his mail), the final SuperS DVD will contain the final three episodes and retail for half the price of all the other DVDs, at $14.98. I'd make a news article on this, however things can change, and hopefully have for the better as this took place in late July (the e-mail states that ADV hadn't gotten the rights to the first two seasons yet and were waiting for DiC's liscense to expire to get them) so things might've changed since then. I hope there's more of a suprise than a price cut, but with how the SuperS releases have been going so far, I sadly wouldn't be suprised if there wasn't.
Speaking of Pioneer, they updated their site to list releases up until mid-April. Of course, the final DVD and set of VHSs weren't on there, though the coverart for the sixth set of SuperS releases were, and are up in the Pioneer SuperS coverart archive.
So thus ends today's update, and the chances that a month will go by with no update. ^^;;; I hope everyone had a nice turkey day and I'll have some more nice stuff to post before year's end!
Hey all. I'm just checking in here to let you all know that we are NOT dead. Yay4us! Nope. I can't really speak for Dan or Tiff, but I think I'm pretty safe in assuming that they've been pretty bogged down with school lately, especially with finals approaching. As for me, well, it's the same. I've been increadibly bogged down with school lately, and ESPECIALLY with finals coming up next week. Luckily, after the 12th I shall be done with the semester and my next semester doesn't start till the end of January. Hopefully things will start to pick up by then. Just patience dear loyal readers, patience. We are still alive, and we have not forgotten you. ~_^
Later!
Things have been a bit interesting for me lately to say the least. Because the way we had our room setup in here was considered a fire hazard when our RA was warning us he was doing fire checks soon, we had to change our room around. With our new setup, Kev can't see the TVs anymore, so I lent him my TV card. This means screencaps from me will be a little more sparse, but will still get done if possible. Just a bit slower since it's no longer on my own system.
About 12 hours ago, I decided to reformat my computer. What I forgot to do was back up my mail. -_-;;; If anyone sent me a mail in the past few months and hasn't gotten a response (which was what I was planning to do later too since this weekend is open for me), please e-mail me again, sorry for the inconvience.
You know well enough I can't update without any content, and while small, this is content nonetheless. It seems that the coverart for the new CD has been released, and you can see it here. Yeah, I know it's only a link and no section, but when I get the CD, I'll make scans and start a NA CD cover art gallery or something similar to the DVD ones. That's all I have for now, maybe more tomorrow (later today technically) if I find something I can do.
I promised more screencaps in an attempt to catch up to Bob, and I've gotten episodes 2 - 6 complete today. I guess catching up won't be too much of a challenge as I thought. ^_~ Also, I kinda forgot to do my two cents right after Bob put episodes 13 and 14 up, so I did now. Now all I've got to do is caps for 7 - 14, and my backlog here is complete, and maybe some new stuff to follow. ^_^
Pioneer finally announced the sixth set of SuperS. Read my latest news article for the details.
SOS made another inaccurate statement that I had to correct. -_-;; Check it out over at the Anti-SOS page.
Trying to get this in before class, ADV has released the coverart for the last set of dub DVDs. I also got better scans of the two before them. Head over to the ADV dub DVD coverart archive to see the new art and better versions of the old.
Well look at this. Tiff has an opinions essay. WHEE! imagine that ^^; So go read it already! =P
It's been a couple days since finding out that there's a new North American Sailor Moon CD coming out, and now the details have been found on it. Read about what's on the CD in my latest news article.
Yeah, as you can see, I wasn't able to make my goal for more screencaps, but trust me, more will come in time, and not as much time as the comparisons. ^_~ *ducks Bob's fist*
Anyways, there's been an interesing find made over this weekend. It seems that there's going to be a new Sailor Moon CD here in North America, though there's very little information on it. Pratically none actually. Read my latest news article to see me try to fill up some space however I could to attepmt to make a decent news article.
Hey, I'm back after a very hectic week with ANOTHER EPISODE COMPARISON! Episode 14 is now up for your viewing pleasure. I have one more waiting to go up so expect that probably sometime next weeke.....erh wait. Hmm....I have a wedding to go to next weekend. Dilemma. Well, it will definitely go up within the next two weeks so expect that soon! =)
YES I DID SOMETHING SHUT UP. I can't have you all loving Dan more than you love ME. It's now 12:36 AM my time, 3:36 AM Dan's time, and somewhere inbetween there Tiff's time ^^;; In otherwords, I'm very tired, and have been working diligently on this for the past hour to get it up ASAP. Yes. Episode 13 has gone up in the series section. Please enjoy. Expect more in the near future. Now I am off to bed. *DIES*
