Well, today brings news that, quite frankly, pisses me off, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Read the latest news article to see how we North American Sailor Moon fans get screwed over yet again.
On a more lighter note, I finally got my season one box this past weekend, and hope to watch it throughout the week and hope to have a review up not long after. Also to follow will be an editorial where I will address all the issues that have occured since the box was released and now this new happening.
We all make mistakes, and it appears that I have made a faulty news post. It appears that my last article regarding Comic Con was wrong, so I have posted a correction article showing whatreally happened at the con. I apologize for reporting from a faulty report, as well as taking so long to post up the correction, in which parts of why the wait forthe correction I'd rather not discuss. I have a list of things I want to get done on the site before Otakon starts, so expect a backlog of work to be finished this week.
Well, little Sailor Moon news tidbit from this weekend's Comic Con. Not really much else to say here, though in the coming weeks, I hope to finish up my backloig of work here.
This weekend is Anime Expo weekend, so I will be keeping a close eye on any Sailor Moon news that might come out of it. Honestly, I don't expect any big Sailor Moon news to come from this weekends con, as Otakon is the con that has a big history with big Sailor Moon announcements, but there could be suprises in store for us this weekend.
Speaking of suprises, yesterday ADV made an announcement yesterday regarding Sailor Moon R. Be sure to read my news article to see their announcement. Also happy 4th of July everyone, hope you have really fun celebrations, but not too much fun. ^_~
Holy crap! What's with all the cobwebs on my door??? You think someone would have the decency to clean them off every once in a while. Hum, well I guess that's what happens when you don't update for years at a time. Well no longer my young padawans! I bring you good news today. Episode 16 has been posted in the series section. Yes! Yes! Rejoice! I have returned.
Also, from now on please do not send me ANY comparison corrections through e-mail. All corrections should be posted in the comparison discussion section of the message board. If you post it there it's MUCH more likely to get fixed, as the message will always be there taunting me. I plan on updating the e-mail page with this update soon. See ya all later.
The giant announcement was made yesterday, today there's details to follow up on this announcement. See all that has been dug up in my latest news post.
Groundbreaking news made today, see the latest news post regarding the next generation of Sailormoon.
Also, as you can see, I'm back. Moved in this past Sunday, we've all been gradually getting settled in throughout the week. I'm pretty much down to just finishing up my room, but I at least have internet up here. As to what to expect from me this summer, I have recently ordered a book on PHP and MySQL, so when that comes in in a couple weeks I'll start playing with some code and getting this site redone. Also, while moving in, I learned that one of my housemates has a scanner, which means once he get's his stuff all settled in, I'll be able to do the coverart scans again. There is no set timeframe for when these things will be completed, so please don't ask.
Non-content update for Dan today, but with mostly important stuff to say. First off, it's not been a month that the forums have been up, and all I've got to say is wow. For this site being in a slow period, the stats of the forums completely exceeded my expectations. Within 24 hours of opening them up, there were 30 users, much more than I expected. Today, it has grown to just over 115 users with well over 2,300 posts in the first month. For comparisons sake with my other site, SMU passed MKBO, which had a forum restart in June 2002, in both users and posts within two weeks. Normally, I really wouldn't care much about stats outside of making milestones in the hit count, in which we have passed 350,000, but these stats greatly exceeded my expectations and that's just awesome. If you're reading this and haven't signed up for the forums yet, I encourage you to as there's lots of great conversation going on there and it's a good way to pass the time between updates.
Speaking of time between updates, this is gonna be my last one for a while. I am in the midst of finals week this semester, which means less time than ever this week, I honestly shouldn't even be typing this out right now, but it will probably be my last chance for a while. After finals, I'm moving out of the dorms. Only this time around, I'm not staying home, hell, very little is coming home with me. I'm moving in a house off campus in a few weeks, so I'm storing my stuff in my friend's house until I move up here, which includes my computer. Even if I brought my computer home, I wouldn't bother connecting it to the internet for the two and half weeks I'd be home. So this means I'll be very inactive from now until at least June 1st, possibly after. I move in my place on June 1st, but I might not immiedately have internet, so it might be a few days until I'm back online. So for the next few weeks, expect no updates from me, I'm taking a break after these finals. I'll be back around early June and then big things will be in the making for this site. I'll still be in the forums now and then via the family computer, but other than that I'm inactive online. I should start studying now, so I'll see you all again in a few weeks.
Very mini-update today. Small news article on the last Pioneer SMSS release, and a mini-update to the SuperS coverart archive to reflect the news update. I plan to update more of the SS archive this week with better scans hopefully.
The day I've been awaiting for weeks now, the press release AND the art has been released. Read the PR and see the art in my latest article.
Today's the day of a nice little addition to SMU, as you might've seen with the little button under the main ones, we now have forums here. ^_^ So now you all can discuss anything having to do with the site, anime, or anything else right here in the new forums. A good way to make it seem like the time between all of our updates is shorter than it really is =P and I'm sure there'll be great discussion and whatnot in there. Enough of my rambling on, go check them out!
A little more info on the first season sub-only box has been released by ADV. See the new pre-press release info on the box in my latest article.
This is a way to end a month, or start off a new year of news, as 2003 as had no Sailor Moon news until today. News that has been anticipated for months now has finally come, and you can see the new little bit of news in my latest article. Read, and be happy. ^_^
In non-related news, this summer I embark on a big quest. This quest is to buy a book and experiment with php and MySQL and see what I can do with this site. It will be a long process of course, but good things are to come which will make this site easier to go through, and more importantly, easier for us to update. School will be taking up most of my time the rest of the semester, so these little news updates are all you should expect from me for a while, but after that I hope to bring much more and finish my backlog and start some more stuff.
I hate doing non-content updates, most of you know that, but today, there's just some stuff I want to say that isn't excatly fit for a editorial just yet and makes more sense to be here than my weblog. I'm sure that most of you here have heard about and have been to the Amazoness Quartet's site, The Worst Sailormoon Pages ever, a site whose purpose was to review bad SM sites to keep people from going to the bad ones, and encourage the webmasters of their site to improve them by giving their thoughts and ideas in their reviews. They also took the time to review sites they thought were good SM sites, and had an annual people's choice awards for the people to nominate and vote for the best SM site in different catergories. They also wrote their own rants, posted up people's rants, and had much more, including a site designed to help people with websites.
I've been a regular site-goer to the AQ for years now, for a long time checking there for updates was part of my daily routine. This past summer, updates there became a bit more sparse, and until a few weeks ago, there wasn't even an update since October. Between then and now, I didn't check the site nearly as often, since everytime there wasn't something new, went there earilier this week, and saw the news. A bit late I know, but school has slowed down a lot of things for me this semester. On Febuary 16th, they made the announcement that they are now a static site, meaning they're done updating (except links and maybe some news) and will stay up as long as they can. They also cancelled the people's choice awards for the year because of a lack of finalists (I was hoping we'd make the finalists this year). This is a site I've looked up to for years, so it hurts a bit to see it stop, even fully understanding excatly why it's stopping.
It's funny, because I at first hated it. See, back before we put together Sailor Moon Uncensored, even back before I made MKBO, the three of us here were invloved with another Sailor Moon site, the Sailor Moon S to English Campaign. I know just mentioning that site brings about a bunch of emotions and memories to the three of us. You might be asking yourself, "But S has been dubbed and even been released uncut, why was there a campaign?" Well, remember, just as we were starting this site, Sailor Moon S began to air, so the campaign was before the initial announcement of the dubs in March 2000. The three of us eventually became high staff members of the site, led by someone else. In December 1999, the campaign made the AQ's worst of the month, as seen here. At least for me, this was the first time I saw the AQ. So because a site I was a big part of got that title, I was a bit pissed off. I know at least I wrote them a letter saying stuff like all that they do is bash sites and that kind of shit, thinking I was all big and all because I was a high staff member of such a good cause and whatever. I had no idea back then that I was so immature and closed minded to a lot of things. I got an e-mail back telling me pretty much what I told you in describing the AQ's site in the beginning of this non-content update. I woke up a bit after that, and soon the AQ because one of my most favorite sites to go to. I don't remember if I had sent them an e-mail to them apologizing for being such an asshole, even though I'm sure they're used to it (hell, they half expected it looking at the beginning of the review), if I didn't apoligize, then I'm going to publically apologize right now. I was an idiot then, and if I can take back writing that mail and the ego I didn't realize I had back then, I would. I'm just glad that through that experience, I found their website.
Wow, I'm starting to get on a roll I really could write an editorial of how so much things have changed from years ago to now. From Sailor Moon, to the Internet, to Sailor Moon sites ON the Internet, so much has changed from when I had first seen Sailor Moon, from when I first finally had access to the Internet for more than 5 hours a month, up to today. Maybe I will write an editorial someday, when I have time to write for myself and not for my classes and get on a rush like just now. Who knows? All I know that along the ride, sites like the AQ, the Sailor Senshi Page, the alt.fan.sailor-moon newsgroup, and so many others, including the SOS (though they are the only negative one), have always been there. Seeing one of the big SM sites go down, the AQ, is quite a shock and saddening to me. One of the sites I grew up with on my time on the Internet is closed. I know I'm gonna miss it, and I'm sure there are many others who will miss it as well. I just hope that it never get's completely taken down, as it's a great archive of SM history for the most part. I could go on and on on what good the AQ has done in all its years, creating such a big impact on SM sites, and probably many anime sites as well. Such a great site, the AQ will never be forgotten.
School has been kicking my ass lately. I've been standing strong against it, but to do that means no time to do stuff besides school and work, which means no updates for here, or time for much else. And judging by there being like nothing going on here, it's safe to assume that the same goes for Bob and Tiff.
Last week, I paid a bill for the domain (not just the server like every month), which means we've been up on this domain for a year now! ^_^ This has proven to be very fun and useful and you can bet I'll be playing with code over the summer to take advantage of just what this server can do.
As for the content part of this update, it's pretty small. Hell, I could've done it a couple days ago, but I wanted to wait to announce that I'd be going to a con in a couple months with the update, but one of us that was going to go was more poor than she thought, me and my friend who was going to drive aren't unpoor enough to get a hotel by ourselves, no one else seems to want to go, so the whole thing fell apart. Meh. I wanted to do stuff here to get ready for the con since I planned to go to the industry panels and all, but since that's not going to happen now, all I've got today is the coverart for the SS DVD that shouldn't exist, so checkout the SS coverart archive to see it. Since there's only one VHS in the release, it's not known what the reverse cover will look like.
Hopefully I can try to getting to taking more screencaps over weekends if I find the time to, and over spring break, I'll try to get to watching through my DVDs and get more reviews up when I get back. Would do more than that for the site over break, but it's not worth the trouble for me to bring my computer home for a week. So yeah, updates are going to be sparse from me but I'll try to do what I can.
